Hollyford Track: Day 3

We awoke to promising weather! Went for a walk on the Martin’s Bay beach and visited the site of the McKenzie homestead, which was built in the late 1800’s. After walking the entire length of the beach (6k), which was beautiful, we returned to Martin’s Bay Lodge for lunch and an exciting flight out to Milford Sound, which we could actually SEE this time, as opposed to three days ago when the rains/fog prevented us from seeing the cliffs in all of their majesty.

We’ve enjoyed our fellow travelers on this trip, a bunch that includes several Brits, and New Zealanders. We arrived back in Queenstown this evening and had a farewell seafood dinner with the seven of us that are still here from the Wilderness Travel trip (Cam and Dixie, Tom and Cydie, Mary Jo (who did the Routeburn Track) and us.

We all want to come back for the Heaphy Track and the Queen Charlotte Track next time!

Heart rock!

Martins Bay Lodge. The single engine airplane from Fiordland Air that took us to Milford Sound pulled up right out front.
