After driving north, we arrived in the Marlborough region, which is one of the major grape growing regions in New Zealand. We went to Auntsfield Estate, one of the original vineyards in this country – started in the mid 1800’s. We tasted sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir and talked with the winemaker. Saw the original homestead and the original cellar – basically a hobbit type structure built into a hillside. There are 13 of us on this trip (including our guide, Jon) and we are driving in a bus pulling a trailer, which holds our luggage and a couple of lunch coolers. Here, we are having lunch in the vineyards!
